Machine Learning is one type of Artificial Intelligence. This patent combines Standard Work with Machine Learning.

I will use Shainin LLC’s FACTUAL® process as an example of Standard Work.

Most Quality Improvement initiatives, consist of a process. FACTUAL is unique; it is Effect (Y) to Cause (X).

So, Creative Logic focused on Machine Learning from the viewpoint of Y to X.

How did Creative Logic improve Standard Work?

A system is defined by processes. Processes are defined by meaningful words. Meaningful words are expressed as acronyms. Acronyms are defined by letters. Letters are defined by steps. Steps are defined by one word. FACTUAL meets these criteria.

AI performed Standard Work very fast. Weeks became seconds and snapshots became real time.

Big Data is Jargin for lots of data stored on Mainframe Computers. I can segregate ‘Big Data’ into non-overlapping subgroups using Shainin’s Y to X methodology.’ We also segregated effects from causes narrowing the data set because there are many more causes than effects. We separated scrap from rework.

Best of Best and Worst of Worst Contrasts can be segregated, once again, using non-overlapping subgroups. (e.g., Best Mechanic vs Worst Mechanic; Best Machine vs Worst Machine.) Non overlapping subgroups stratify the data.

Using Pareto, we determined the largest subgroup within converging subgroups and focused on them.

The data contained within the mainframe must be extracted out. This process is called ‘Data Mining’. Every level of stratification determines the next lowest layer. ‘Layer-by-layer’ effects lead to cause.

The Standard Work SME (Subject Matter Expert) defines Standard Work in a traditional way. The Machine Learning SME applies AI that yields information in numerous forms fast!

Initially the Standard Work SMEs have mechanics capture consistent input reject codes, while a computer SME determines how to automate data collection to be extracted from the mainframe.

The smaller subset can be transferred and managed by a laptop. A laptop can’t contain the amount of data in a mainframe. Each engineer has one with its Microsoft tools.

According to Wikipedia. Machines can be taught to perform Standard Work but with much faster speeds.

When I toured Fiat plants in Italy, I was told they implemented automated processes to perform human task too quickly. They left out the human element, defined by Standard Work, and failed.

AI is a ‘buzz word’, I predict the lessons Fiat learned with automation will be repeated with AI. Standard Work must be defined first.

Creative Logic’s patent is strong with universal applications that apply to any initiative defined by a system, processes, steps, tools and procedures.

It is very rare for a US patent to be granted with no objections. I want to license it and focus on GIFTED.
