Improving Parts

I am an expert coaching Red X Projects. I am one of two Shainin Fellows and have coached Red X projects for 26,600 hours. I am effective coaching event, feature, defect and property problems. I have coached the largest automotive component supplier in the world. I coached the CEO, divisional and regional presidents.

I have worked with 5 Shingo winners in support of lean. I have coached Red X projects in companies that were known for their Six Sigma programs (GE, Rolls Royce, Allied Signal/Honeywell and Motorola).

I also helped integrate Robust Engineering with Red X.

Then I moved into aerospace and solved a 35-year-old problem on the C130. I became a fellow. I was the first quality fellow in the history of the corporation. My employer prided themselves as the largest defense contractor in the world. I coached 60 of the most complex projects, on the F35 Fighter Jet, and certified 84 engineers. I worked very closely with the Chief Demo pilot who was also a Fellow.

‘Call Us Gifted’ – Improving People

I am dyslexic and I am writing a book ‘Call Us Gifted’. I share, with stories, how I overcame obstacles and developed 28 gifts. I try to give others hope. One of my trademarks is Creative Logic™. Dyslexics tend to be more creative and their counterparts tend to be more logical. I have been mentored by individuals responsible for the Quality and Reliability of the RL10 Rocket Engine, the Lunar Module (Dorian Shainin) and the atom bomb (Carl Bennett). Creative Logic makes us synergistic and symbiotic. I used my skills to avoid a disaster on one of the largest transit systems in the world.

I was named one of 25 Ambassadors for a three-year term. I was a dyslexic voice that represented dyslexia across the corporation for the first time.

Standard Work to Improve Parts

When I was with Shainin, I developed the Rolling Top 5, the Green Y and BOBs and WOWs. In 2019 I was named the ASQ Quality Leader of the Year. I was noted for standard work. When I was working on a starting problem on a leaf blower, I drew a picture of a ‘spike interaction’ to explain the physics. A spike interaction occurs when two independent causes come together and cause an event to occur. Carl put the math to my picture and received a patent. Carl gave me a book he co-authored. He wrote an inscription that said, ‘Don’t let the statisticians keep you from solving problems.’ Creative Logic ™ ‘was born. I was creativity and Carl was logic.
