Creative Logic Blog
Carl Bennett was very logical. He was the first statistician hired to build the Atom bomb. He knew Einstein and their careers overlapped.
I have a condition called dyscalculia which means I can’t do math. When I went to work each day, I wrote the time on the corner of my white board. At the end of the day, I counted the number of hours worked on my fingers.
I’m dyslexic and consider it a gift. Dyslexics, in general, are more creative and non-dyslexics are considered more logical.
Dorian Shanin told me if I got stuck or confused to draw a picture. I drew the first picture of now what’s called a Spike Interaction™ (owned by Shainin LLC). Carl did the math which resulted in a patent known as the ‘Bennett’s Method’. In summary I drew an image; Carl did the math. He was the first to win the American Society of Quality (ASQ) Dorian Shainin Medal.
My business is called Creative Logic LLC, my brand is Creative Logic™ and my website is thecreativelogic.com.
I call the figure below a Behavioral Spike™ (Creative Logic LLC owns). Math is involved with spike interactions. No math is involved with a behavioral spike.
Over the last several years, I’ve shifted my focus from improving parts, using Red X®, to improving people. Details are in a book on Amazon named ‘Call us GIFTED’ – ‘Solving problems using Dyslexia’. I bring the dyslexic element to every team I coach. The sequel, ‘Call us Gifted – My 7 Transferrable Skills’ will be finished soon.
Myopic means ‘blind as a bat’.
Symbiotic means individuals are beginning to respect each other’s view. When they were myopic, they were polarized. One individual I’ve coached is using this model to try to get conservative and liberal government officials to work together. This is called depolarization.
Synergistic means the whole is greater than the sum of the parts (e.g., 1+1=3).
Carl and I became close. We met on Lake Keowee near Clemson, SC once a year and had dinner at a ‘fish camp’ together.
Carl respected my creativity and I respected his logic; thus, Creative Logic was born.
Carl’s respect is demonstrated in the following inscription he wrote in a book he co-authored. ‘Tim, don’t let the statisticians keep you from solving problems.’
In summary, the first behavioral spike, previously shown, was drawn as a result of my relationship with Carl.
I’ll go a bit deeper.
Behavioral Spike Convention
The Green Line represents the Green Y® (I came up with the Green Y in 1988. I made it Green because Green is the color of money. When you eliminate problems, you make more money. Dorian said, ‘I like the Green Y; I am the father of the Red X and you, Tim, are the father of the Green Y’.)
The Green Y shows the effect at its worst and best extremes.
The Blue Line is the horizontal axis. It represents one of the Behavioral Spike components. In this case, it shows the worst and best extremes of logic.
The Black Lines represent the second component defining the Behavioral Spike. The picture allows me to show a 3-dimentional image in 2-dimentional form. In this case, the image shows the best and worst extremes of creativity. This representation was needed because I cannot see in 3D.
The dashed line shows the behavioral spike.
The Red Line shows the Red X®, that Dorian Shainin is famous for. The top of the Red Arrow is the best extreme. When Creativity and Logic come together, there is synergy and an increase in performance.
A Spike Interaction or a Behavioral Spike is like a light switch which is on or off (Ref. Carl Bennett). The pointed end of the red arrow is when it is ‘on’.
